Welcome to the website of the Rockford neighborhood.

Here you will find information to answer any questions you may have about Rockford and maintaining your home.

Zoning, design, and marketing for the Rockford subdivision began in the autumn of 1988.  The 25 acres of land that make up Rockford, originally owned by Republic Steel, was sold to the Rockford Joint Venture a year later in 1989.  Though much thought was given to building town homes or apartments, it was decided that there was a much greater need in the area for single-family detached homes.

The acreage was divided into 126 lots of approximately 5,000 square feet each.  The plan was changed to build 113 homes. To make homes unique and special for prospective buyers, each home featured Palladian windows, fireplaces, 9-foot ceilings, one-level living, double-car garages, optional hot tubs and the finest brick construction. The homes in Rockford range from 3-bedroom/2-bath, at just over 1900 square feet, to 2-bedroom/2-bath at approximately 1250 square feet.

Original selling prices of the homes ranged from $90,000 to $123,000. The Rockford subdivision was one of the first Good Cents energy efficient developments by Thornton Construction Company in the Birmingham area.

Considering that the land was once vacant property on a rocky hill, it is today a lovely place its residents call home. Though it takes work and time for each homeowner to preserve their property in keeping with their gorgeous view overlooking Shades Mountain, it is certainly worth the effort!
